SPREADING YOUR WINGS COUNSELING
Grow. Evolve. Transform.
One of the bravest things someone can do is understand their own story.
One of the bravest things someone can do is understand their own story.
Spreading Your Wings offers hope and solutions to families by providing counseling to parents and children ages 4-17 experiencing anxiety, behavioral concerns, emotional distress, school issues, and childhood trauma.
Spreading Your Wings tailors each session to meet your child’s needs and abilities. Throughout sessions, various worksheets, activities, games, and stress-relieving techniques will be employed to build comfort, rapport, and trust between therapist and child to help him or her achieve the most benefit possible from each session. You will be involved throughout the process, as parenting support will be provided.
At Spreading Your Wings, we recognize the unique transitional period that teenagers today are navigating. Today’s teens are dealing with anxiety and depression, among other mood challenges, at a rate higher than any other generation. Adolescents need therapy to be an unbiased, safe listening space. Unlike with younger children, the teenager’s therapy hour is likely to be a private experience just for them.
Play therapy utilizes play, which is a child's natural medium of expression, to help them express their feelings more easily through toys instead of words. It can be used with a directive (using board games, worksheets, activities, etc) or non-directive approach, where the child takes the lead in therapy sessions within a secure and supportive environment.
Art therapy allows your child to explore their experience and their feelings, including their inner world, in a different way. In art therapy, your child's therapist will engage your child using art, and will then use the art to help your child problem solve, process their feelings, and navigate their experiences.
Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) empowers children and teenagers to identify and challenge negative thoughts and behaviors and replace them with positive, healthy ones It is an effective treatment approach for a range of mental and emotional health issues, including anxiety and depression.
Somatic therapy, sometimes known as body psychotherapy, is a therapeutic approach that places importance on what we experience in the mind and the body as well as the connection between the two. “Somatic” itself means “of or relating to the body.” EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) provides a way to address emotional trauma by working with the body by physical tapping on points located on the face and upper body.
